Friday 30 December 2016

It was with great sadness that we received the news yesterday that Indie aka Morris the Morrison cat had passed away to the rainbow bridge.

The Trustees had a end of year meeting today and held it down at Carole's where our Golden Oldies are in care and we all took sometime to hangout with Teddy and Little Mae giving them an extra cuddle whilst remembering our boy Indie.

Here is a photo of Little Mae from today and we've uploaded another photo of her when she was first admitted.

It lifts our hearts to see such a difference in Little Mae and we hope in some ways it lifts your spirits whilst remembering Indie. Every emotional low or large vet bill is kinda worth it if it means cats are given love and security when they've been let down by others in the past. We want to thank everyone who has donated to our Golden Oldie appeal, we've raised £650 towards covering Teddy and Little Mae's vet bills. It will help incredibly as fundraising will rather be non existent in the next few months. We wish everyone a very safe and happy new year and we'll see you in 2017 helping cats in our community.

A Christmas Note from the Co-Founders of MK Cat Rescue

Draco, Jasper, Bubble and Squeak all received a lovely treat this morning from Emma who helps us with socialising the cats in our care. These are our youngest residence all required trapping because they were living outside and have hardly been handled.

We aren't homing cats now until the 27 Dec but we are on hand if you need any advice or support in relation to cat welfare.

On behalf of the co-founders of MK Cat Rescue Carole, Stewart, Annie and myself may we wish every single one of our friends, volunteers and supporters a very Merry Christmas - purrs to all x

Claire

Generosity of MK Community at Christmas

Thank you to all the customers of Willow Vets & MK Vet Group. This is just a taster of the donations we have received today and we are blown away by the amount.

That was the week that was!

Where has that week gone!

It is been busy busy in the cat welfare world, as MK RSCPA said this week "kitten season is meant to be over!" sadly though it isn't. It is December and little kittens are still be found.

This little kitten was reported to us earlier this week. A trip out and we've discovered mum and three kittens living in someone's shed. Stewart is liaising with the neighbours about getting them safely trapped and into the warmth.

Mary is arranging to bring in a female black cat that has been a stray for months and we're doing what we can to help the ginger cat that has been found up in Tesco's in Wolverton. Oh and we've found a lovely stables for two ferals that we have in and Daisy our beautiful tabby girl who required a skin graft has been reserved......phewie

In conjunction with our friends at Support Adoption For Pets the event is called The Santa Paws Appeal 2016.

The appeal runs throughout December and 50% yes 50% of all money raised will be donated to MK Cat Rescue. We will have a lovely bunch of volunteers at Pets At Home the weekend of the 10 and 11 December 2016 with a tombola and raffle so come along say hello and show your love for the cats of MK!

Cat Missing 8 Months Reunited :-)

On Saturday whilst taking the stall down outside Jollyes we were approached by a lady and her daughter who needed help with a stray in Tattenhoe.

The stray had been around about six months or more and had lumps on its body.

Claire and Debbie headed down on Sunday morning and the cat was chipped. Jinxy was covered in matts but was the sweetest little girl. Both phone numbers were invalid so arrangements were made to get Jinxy into emergency foster and a trip to North Milt...on Keynes was made to the registered address.

The owner had moved but a chat with a neighbour provided a new phone number. By Sunday night the owner who had been missing her cat for over 8 months heard the words "Jinxy has been found and is safe".

We were delighted to reunite Jinxy with her owner but it really does enforce the importance of keeping those chip details up to date.

With A Little Help From Our Friends

We got a lovely donation this week from our friends at Support Adoption For Pets.

A pallet of donated cat biscuits. This will certainly see us through the winter months with regards to biscuit supplies.

A big thank you to Pets at Home in Rooksley for allowing the delivery to be made to their warehouse and helping us load it up into our cars!

Has Santa been early?

One of our volunteers got a lovely surprise when they got home yesterday. Someone had left in their porch a donation of cat food. We have no idea who donated it, but thank you so much.

Hello Daisy :-)

Everyone meet little Daisy.

Daisy was admitted into foster when she and her kittens were found abandoned in someone's back garden back in early October. The kittens were healthy and soon rehomed but sadly Daisy had a nasty collar wound (no collar on her so was that the reason she and her kittens were dumped!). Sadly stitches didn't hold the wound together so last week Daisy had a skin graft. Daisy is currently on cage rest and is wearing a very attractive coat. The cost of her care has reached just over £500 so far. Little Daisy is back to the vets in the next few days to see how the wound is healing.

If you want to help us help more cats please consider donating on our crowdfunding page which has 4 days left to run or we would happily accept donations of cat food or litter x

Super Hero!

You have no idea how much we love our volunteers and Calvin is just one who we want to give a big shout out too and Annie presented him with a certificate this week as he's raised £115 by having one of our collection tins when he is out at events with his small street organ and a mechanical cat.

Calvin supports several animal charities and we are delighted that he is supporting us. Thank you Calvin x

Please meet our three little beauties, who were sadly living in a shed with their mum, and because of this they are semi-feral.

Luckily, their mum has found a new home but her babies will take some work, they are very timid at the moment so we will be working very hard to gain their trust, and start interacting with them properly.

They do not currently have names, as we have been unable to get close enough to sex them yet.

Please support us by donating towards helping us help the cats in the coming months https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mk-catrescue

Sunday 30 October 2016

Well that was a weekend and a half. Our volunteers worked their socks off this weekend raising funds. Our pawsome team at Jollyes Barbara, Kath, Nikki, Sue, Valda, Emmie, Carole, Debbie and Chris raised a staggering £365.92. Your guys are amazeballs, thank you xx

Donations can still be made to help us complete our pens in time for winter via our crowd funding page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mk-catrescue

The money from Jollyes will go towards paying for the electricity to be installed on all three outdoor pens that we now own. Speaking of electricity if anyone knows a sparkey who likes cats and would be prepared to do a bit of work for us please message us at mkcatrescue@gmail.com

We got a lovely update from Leo's new owner last night

We are so happy to have this little beauty Leo with us.. He has already made himself at home. Thank you so much 😻xx

Kittens are go

Well done to Stewart for successfully trapping these kittens today. There sex is unknown at the moment, but you do the math if left living in a shed not neutered....well say you have two females and one male they have the potential to produce how many kittens :-/

We keep it real here at MK Cat Rescue and kittens and female cats that aren't neutered will always be a priority.

We can't do what we do without the support of so many but some of our supporters are true friends, so thank you Sarah Snooks, Rachel Webb and Fiona Nicholson for their continued support to our charity with donations of food. With a recent vet bill that has made our hearts sink we couldn't operate without your support. Please remember yes we are all volunteers, but we receive no national funding we rely 100% on money that we raise.

Friday 21 October 2016

Back in the summer we were contacted by a lovely lady called Barbara. She was distraught but had no choice but had to rehome her two lovely cats Topsy and Turvey.

Through our direct rehome scheme we advertised them on her behalf and a few weeks later they stole the heart of a lady called Rose. Topsy and Turvey have new names but its lovely to see that they have settled so well!

If you love what we do please support us by helping us reach our target on our crowdfunding page - we want to carry on helping as many cats as we can in the winter!

Thank You

When we asked yesterday for help with getting some lino for our new cat pen we had no idea that someone sharing our post would mean that today we took delivery of some lino from Ross at Westbury Carpets in MK (http://www.westburycarpets.co.uk). Lyn is chuffed to pieces.
Thank you Ross and Westbury Carpets for your generosity.

Rocky (now Ronnie)'s Happy Ending

We've just received the following update from Rocky's new mummy, he has also has a new name, Ronnie! He definitely got the happy ending, that he truly deserved.

'Just a short update. All is well and you were right when you said he would find his feet quickly. Ronnie is an absolutely joy. Sleeping in the sun at the moment beside me at the laptop, stretched out all over my paperwork! Libby and Mike popped over yesterday to welcome him as you can see. He is eating well, no problems with the litter tray, sleeping well - on my bed I am ashamed to say! I held him tightly while we had a short once around the garden this morning although I have the feeling that he may be more of a house cat, interested but not greatly impressed with the outside. I popped up the road this morning to the market, and had a lovely welcome on my return, he loves his 'nose bumps'. I've never known such an affectionate pussy cat. So thank you Annie for bringing Ronnie into my life.
Most Sincerely, Sue'

October is off to a good start

October has started off as an amazing month, as we've seen four wonderful pussycats go to their forever homes over the past few days.

Sid and Penny, who originally came in separately as strays, fell in love in foster care and have been rehomed together.

Meowth, Penny's grandson has also found happiness with his new family.

And last but not least, Rocky went to his forever home with his new mummy today.

Seeing their happy endings, makes all of the work we do worthwhile, and it's the best feeling in the world. Good luck in your new homes kitties❤️

New lodgings!

Say hello to our 4th cat pen!

- not quite finished but still once its finished means we can get more cats into care and off the streets! Cat pens are ideal for entire toms whilst we get them neutered and once they stop smelling can come into an indoor foster space or indeed for those ferals that need neutering to stop the ever increasing number of feral cats in our community.
