No Rest For Our Volunteers!

No rest for our volunteers - here is our new foster cat OJ, brought in this morning by Stewart. OJ will need some time to settle but we're hoping 2016 will be a better year for him and we can get him a lovely new home.

Amazing Donation Day!

Yesterday was officially - amazing donation day. From friends of MK Cat Rescue organising their own collections, to clients atwww.facebook.com/willowvetcentre dropping goodies off, to us receiving donations via our Wishlist. In the picture is just a small amount of what we have received.

Your donations will help cats like Reggie.

A 6 year old neutered male who until recently had a home. Now unwanted he lives on someone's driveway but at least he is getting food and has shelter. Your donations mean that whilst we wait for a foster space or someone to offer him a home we can provide food for Reggie. So thank you x

Fab Weekend of Fundraising

This weekend was our final push to raise much needed funds to help us through the winter (if it ever arrives!) and also to start seriously looking at buying some cat pens which means we can get more cats off the streets....exciting !! So big thank you to Sue Nicholls, Nikki Houghton, Annie Parker, Stewart Calder, Carole Hallett, (me Claire Henesy yes I'm thanking myself :-)), Barbara Willis & Kath South for taking time out this weekend to volunteer at the stall and also a massive thank you to Fiona Nicholson and Rachel Webb for their kind donations. We raised just over £300.00 which is blinkin marvellous.

I know it sounds corny but together we are making a difference x

Strictly's Greatest Fan

We received this lovely photo of our foster cat Tammy this morning. This is Tammy curled up last night getting ready to watch the final of Strictly.

Lovely Tammy has someone interested in adopting her so we're super excited for her.

Neuter Neuter Neuter

Sylvester & Marmite

On the 22 October 2015, we were asked to provide support and advice to a lady who had recently found some kittens in East Milton Keynes.  All but one (Sylvester) were friendly.  At 16 weeks old it was a worry that Sylvester couldn't be handled without a swipe or hiss often with teeth and claws included!  He would stay in his crate and would refuse to come out.

We had a couple of phone calls with Tanya when she was trying to settle Sylvester into the family home and always tried to manage her expectations that perhaps Sylvester would suit a life outdoors....however a few weeks later we were delighted to receive this photo of Sylvester with his sibling Marmite.

Just goes to show what dedication, trust and patience can do.

Some Sad News

It's with great sadness that we have to announce that our little ginger boy Archie lost his fight on Friday & was put to sleep. We are just thankful that he was in our care so received the love, care and treatment that he needed to relieve his symptoms.
We would like to thank Milton Keynes Veterinary Group for their support over the last week. Never easy & we want to thank Carole our fosterer for doing the feeds, vet runs & just general wonderfulness x We're pleased to say that mum Ava & her two remaining kittens are doing well. RIP little Archie x

Re-homing Now Closed For Christmas x

We've taken the decision not to rehome any cats now until 4 January 2016. We are still here to help in all other ways but our cats will stay put until the festive season is over x

Milo Update

We love hearing how our former foster cats are doing and little Milo who was found by one of our supporters and dear friend Allie has clearly settled into his new home....he's still as cute as ever!

Weekend Events & Update on our Mum in Care

We attended two fundraising events this morning in Emerson Valley and we raised £106. We've also received a rather lovely donation today both of which will help with the vet bills for Ava, our mum in care who is having a few health problems. We'll update on that once we know more but suffice to say her fosterer is now having to help with feeding her kittens whilst she gets her strength back.

Festive Fun This Weekend

Well mother nature literally throe everything at us this weekend, rain, wind and it was freezing on Saturday.

All 9 of our volunteers (some featured in the picture) powered through despite the terrible weather & worked as a great team.

We have raised a mindblowing £400 this weekend which will certainly see us through to the new year meaning we can help more cats.

Also a thank you to our fellow feline friends who came and saw us at both Newport Pagnell & Westcroft & to those who have donated food and cat treats. Your support and positive feedback really kept us going this weekend x

Gizmo the Impersonator

Earlier this week we were asked to help find the owners of a male cat that had been a stray for a while in Deanshanger. The chip details were out of date but with a bit of luck and common sense we've traced the owner. Gizmo it appears does a very good impersonation of a "hungry stray" but then quite happily heads home for his tea. Please keep your chip details up-to-date folks.
Cats Protection asked us to help having received a report of a mum and 3 kittens living in a shed.  Unfortunately they couldn't take them so we agreed to bring them into our care this evening.

We believe we have two boys and a girl.  Mum is with them and is happy and healthy we've called her Ava.

With the cold nights we've been having these little ones are lucky to be alive.

Tuesday 24 November 2015

Ava was reported to us on Saturday, 21 November 2015.  She had escaped her new home after only 2 days and hadn't been chipped.
We spoke to Ava's owners and offered to lend them one of our humane cat traps as they had already put up a number of lost cat posters in the area and had reported Ava to local vets and animal charities.

On Sunday 22 November 2015, the trap was set near their home but Ava had been spotted at the local school some 10 minutes walk away.  We provided some additional advice on setting up the trap nearby to the school and ensuring that people in the area were aware of what was happening.  The trap needed to be checked regularly and we were delighted to hear on Tuesday, 24 November 2015 that Ava had been successfully trapped and brought into the school by the local caretaker.
Ava was taken home but needed a bath but as you can see was looking rather snug in the video that her owners sent to us.

We’re really delighted that by lending Ava’s owners one of our humane traps that Ava was safely reunited with her owners this morning.

Sunday 22 November 2015

On Friday night we held our first organised event and we raised an amazing £230.

Everyone had a great night and we have to thank Wolverton Top Club for allowing us to hold our event.

Some of our wonderful volunteers

Willow Vets came out to support us :-)

Saturday 14 November 2015

We had a lovely time at the MK Vet Group Cat Talk today, met some lovely new friends and the cakes were also rather scrummy.

A big thank you for those that donated or bought items from our stall as we raised £53.81 which will go towards us buying some new cat activity units for our foster cats. We would also like to thank Michele Robinson for the kind donation of kitten food which we have safely received and Ying & Yang are enjoying immensely.

Friday 13 November 2015

Charlie has gone off to his new home today - we wish him and his new owners a very happy life together x

Tuesday 10 November 2015

Busy week for us at MK Cat Rescue starting with us saying goodbye to our two Lizzie’s.  We wish them both every happiness in their new homes.

We’ve also had some fab volunteers helping out today at the MK Community Foundation Car Raffle & our boys Ying & Yang have been given a full health check by the vets and are fit for homing………round of applause to all those volunteers at MK Cat Rescue who are making our dream a reality

Sunday 8 November 2015

We brought in Ying & his brother Yang into our care yesterday. Ying has led us a merry dance....we couldn't find him. Suffice to say after Nikki & Carole turned the room upside down (3 times)...little monkey turned up safe and sound just in time for x factor ðŸ˜‰

We took Ying & his brother in as emergencies and we are running low on wet kitten food. If anyone is able to donate some we would be grateful. Thank you for your continuing support. We are run by volunteers and receive no national funding so your support means so much.

Friday 6 November 2015

We've just heard that £31.91 is on its way to us, thanks to our fantastic supporters shopping online with easyfundraising! The extra funds is just in time as we're bringing into our care two new kittens today. This money will go towards their health check at the vets.

Wednesday 4 November 2015

Always lovely to see our foster cats settled into their homes. Milo melted all our hearts as despite ending up on the streets he was the biggest love bug

Monday 2 November 2015

Always lovely for our volunteers to spend time with the cats that they have helped. Lottie is reserved & will be off to her new home soon but lovely for Stewart who helped bring Lottie & her family into our care to be able to say goodbye....and to see Lizzie who was doing acrobatics

Saturday 31 October 2015

We waved bye bye to the lovely Maisie earlier this week; she's heading off to live in Dunstable and we wish her a long and happy life.

Monday 26 October 2015

We waved bye bye to our love bug Milo on Friday, 23 October 2015 and received some lovely photos of Milo firstly being collected by his new owner and then all nice and snuggled up that evening in his new home.

We're delighted that he has settled in so well and wish him all the very best in his new home.

Saturday 24 October 2015

So we just hit 700 likes on our facebook page.  And we are getting more views on our blog so thank you from all of us at MK Cat Rescue for your support, feedback and encouragement. This week we've raised £118 which will help us neuter two male cats that are currently on the streets and to get some more kitten food for our current residents. We were delighted this week to also collect our new zoodies......modelled rather unprofessionally by Annie and Claire at this morning's car boot.

FIREWORKS

FIREWORKS

Every year so many animals get scared when fireworks are let off and often there is a large influx of cats that escape or find themselves lost having been scared by fireworks.
So our top tips:
·   Make sure your cat is microchipped and your contact details on the chip are up-to-date.
  •  ·  Keep them in after dark
  • ·   Try to avoid leaving your cat on its own – whilst they may not want you fussing around them they will feel safer if you are at home.
  • ·   If you have to leave the house leave a radio or tv playing to drown out the display
  • ·   Keep all windows, curtains, doors and cat flaps closed/locked.
  • ·   Feed your cat before the fireworks start, a full belly may help them feel clam and tired
  • ·   Think about investing in Feliway (releases calming pheromones into the air which help comfort your cat)

Whilst trying not to be a bunch of party poopers; this is the law on fireworks:
  • ·   You must not throw fireworks (including sparklers) in the street or other public places
  • ·   Fireworks cannot be set off after 11pm and 7am.  Only exception is Bonfire Night itself when the cut off is midnight or New Year Events.
  • ·   Fireworks are on sale from 15 October to 10 November, 26 to 31 December and 3 days before Diwali and Chinese New Year

We’ve identified the following events in our area, if you know if anymore please post them up.
31 October 2015:
  1. Gulliver’s Land Fantastic Fireworks
  2. Milton Keynes Village Fireworks (fireworks start 7pm)
  3. Bourton Park Fireworks

1 November 2015:
  1. Campbell Park Display starts 7:30pm
  2. The Olney Group Fireworks Night, Recreation Ground (off East Street) starts 6:30pm

3 November 2015:
  1. Bletchley Park – Blitznight starts 5pm ends 20:30

7 November 2015:
  1. Winslow Lions Club Firework Display – fireworks start 7pm

Thursday 8 October 2015

We've managed to find a temporary foster space for a mum and four kittens who were found in someone's back garden (three of the kittens are in the pictures) but we also now have an expectant mother in our care.....

If anyone can donate some kitten food it would be much appreciated. Donations can be made via our wish list on Amazon or we would be happy to come and collect. Thank you

Tuesday 6 October 2015

We're delighted to be receiving such positive feedback on how we are presenting our volunteering on facebook, twitter and on here. We were even more delighted when this lot landed on our door step this morning - a wonderful donation of recording equipment which means we can give you even more insight into the cats in our care and the cat work that we do out in the communities.

Saturday 3 October 2015

It's was a little chilly this morning at 7am when we set up at one of our local car boots in Milton Keynes but we raised just under £50 which will pay for two cats in our care to be neutered.  So the early start was well worth it

Big thank you to Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell for the donation of a new scanning machine

#communitymatters
We have been delighted to buy Halo Microchip Scanners for some of our local volunteer led charities so that the wonderful folks who help reunite lost, found ( sometimes, sadly, deceased) pets with their families, can do this task faster and more easily. We presented 'new kids on the block' MK Cat Rescue with one recently. We wish them lots of luck in helping the cats of MK- we are all very lucky to have these guys!

Charlie says.....

Charlie says "thank you for all your support at Jolleys on Saturday we raised £171 purrs to all" x

Friday 25 September 2015

We're all ready for a weekend of fundraising and looking at the condition of our latest stray that has come in looks like everything raised this weekend will go towards getting them the vet treatment that they need.
Everyone meet Charlie. Having lived on the streets for reportedly 2 years we brought this little one into our care Thursday night. Our first priority is to allow the cat to settle (currently hiding in a box but loves its head being stroked) then it will be seen by a vet where a thorough health assessment will be conducted and arrangements made to provide any veterinary treatment that the cat needs. Did you know that if Charlie needs to have a general anaesthetic to shave that fur off it will cost £90. Or if we find serious dental issues and all the teeth need to be removed that could cost £600.
National charities with local branches receive grants and additional support. Any money that we earn is entirely through our fundraising efforts there is no back up from a national level.
To help us continue, over the autumn and winter months, to help cats in need in our community we are in the processing of setting up an online donation page. However for now people are being kind enough to send in donations by cheque or are coming to see us at events to make donations. If you can make a donation by cheque please contact us mkcatresscue@gmail.com or alternatively we will be at Jolleys all weekend and at the Doggy Fun Day on Sunday.
Any money you donate will make a world of difference and will help us continue to fight, love and care for cats like Charlie who deserve a second chance
